Jose Mourinho expects Manchester United to sign one more player before the transfer window closes next week.
The Red Devils boss has cut an increasingly frustrated figure on United’s pre-season tour to America, complaining about the lack of signings and the absence of a number of first-team stars.
United have signed three players this summer but only one – Brazilian star Fred – is expected to challenge for a first-team place next season.
Harry Maguire, the Leicester City and England defender, Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld and Chelsea’s Willian have all been linked with move to Old Trafford.
Mourinho had wanted to sign another defender and a forward but it appears he is now resigned to only signing one more star.
Asked if he was confident United would sign two players before the window closes next Thursday, the manager told beIN Sports: ‘No. I’m confident I’ll get one.
‘I think two is not what I will get. I think in every pre-season it happens basically the same with probably every club, which the manager wants more. It is our nature and our way to always want more for your team.
‘But club decisions are different. Normally you don’t get what you want which basically happened throughout my career. If I sign one player before the window closes, that’s fine.’
Asked whether he already knew his best starting XI for the 2018-19 campaign, Mourinho added: ‘More or less, I know. It’s not going to be very different.
‘We basically have the same players. The players we have bought one is a goalkeeper cover [Lee Grant], one is a 19-year-old kid [Diogo Dalot], so in fact we have one new player which is Fred, so of course our team is not going to be very different.’
Manchester United face Real Madrid in their final pre-season friendly on Wednesday, before beginning the Premier League campaign with a home fixture against Leicester City next Friday.
