Chelsea made a slow start to the summer transfer market due to the delay in appointing Maurizio Sarri as their new manager.
But they’ve since snapped up Jorginho and Rob Green and are keen to add to their ranks ahead of next week’s deadline day.
Chelsea have prioritised signing a new centre-back so Sarri can bring in his own style of play at Stamford Bridge.
And a reunion with Rugani, who Sarri managed at Empoli, could be on the cards if the Blues get their way.
According to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web, Chelsea are set to hold a meeting with Juventus in Milan today.
And a potential deal for Rugani is top of their agenda going into the talks.
Rugani has made 67 appearances for Juventus since making his first-team debut in 2015.
And he could play a key role this season as Massimiliano Allegri phases out Andrea Barzagli.
Last week Rugani’s agent, Davide Torchia, revealed Juventus are reluctant to lose his client.
“The Blues really like Rugani and have made an important offer,” said Torchia.
“Juve are aware of the interest of Chelsea but for now they don’t want to sell the player.
“We know everything has a price, Rugani is a defender that would make Chelsea’s manager happy and it would be a good investment for Chelsea.
“Rugani wants to play more games because he feels that he has the technical and moral qualities to do a career similar to those of [Giorgio] Chiellini and Barzagli.”
Chelsea therefore face a battle to convince Juventus to do business at today’s meeting.
