N’Golo Kante has been offered a new £290,000-a-week contract by Chelsea, according to reports.
The 27-year-old has been a key part of Chelsea’s midfield since he was signed from Leicester City for £30 million two years ago.
Kante also played an integral role in France’s success at the World Cup this summer.
Paris Saint-Germain are interested in signing Kante ahead of the new season but Chelsea have now made a substantial move to keep the midfielder at Stamford Bridge.
The Times report that Kante has been offered a new five-year contract worth a club-record £15 million per season.
Chelsea’s highest earner at present is Eden Hazard with his £220,000-a-week deal, which expires in June 2020.
Hazard has attracted interest from Real Madrid and has expressed a desire to join the Champions League holders, but Chelsea are willing to offer the Belgian similar terms to Kante.
Kante, meanwhile, has not asked to leave Chelsea following PSG’s interest and the club are not prepared to sell the midfielder to the French champions.
Chelsea, however, are open to selling Thibaut Courtois to Real Madrid in a £35m deal but they need to buy a replacement goalkeeper first.
The club are also failing to strike an agreement with Juventus for Daniele Rugani. The Serie A champions are demanding a fee in excess of £40m for the defender who Maurizio Sarri managed at Empoli.
